Paint - Color Wash
Colour washing literally washes your walls with color. It's a quick and easy technique that creates a soft, watercolor-like effect-and it works perfectly with most paints.
For best results, use: A latex, eggshell finish basecoat. Work lightly, because your wash will darken as it dries. Practice on a board first-and don't change rags in the middle of a wall.
Step 1: Collect Supplies
- 2 1/2" natural bristle brush
- Cotton t-shirt or rag (white)
- 1" blue painters tape for trim
Step 2: Wash The Walls
- Using the brush, apply a large X of the color wash on the wall, about 10" (25 cm) across.
- As though you're washing a window, use a rag to rub in the X, "washing" evenly to prevent dark lines of colorwash from forming at the edges of your ragging.
- Apply more colorwash X's and rub in the paint in random patterns. Think jigsaw puzzle, and avoid consistent up and down or side to side application, which could result in a noticeable pattern.
-
Take excess paint off the brush with the rag and stipple carefully into the corners with the brush.
